UN calls on Bangladesh to take urgent steps to prevent further killings
UN High Commission for Human Rights has called on Bangladesh to take urgent steps to ensure the protection writers and publishers in the country.
A UN press statement released from Geneva strongly condemned the recent violent attacks on bloggers and publishers.
At least 5 writers, bloggers and publishers as well as 2 foreign aid workers have been violently murdered since February this year, and several others have been threatened on social media.
Meanwhile the US has reiterated its offer to support Bangladesh in helping investigate the recent killings, specially foreigners, through sharing of information.
The offer was made yesterday by visiting Deputy Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs William Tod when he met the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in Dhaka yesterday.
